On September 6, 2017, the HDB Awards of 2017 has unfolded. About 24 contractors and consultants recipients of HDB Construction Awards and HDB Designs Awards. The HDB Awards recognized the consultants and contractors for their contributions through their amazing projects which define excellence in designs, quality, and innovativeness in construction.
Nature is mostly the common concept and most which garnered design awards were those which applied some lush greenery on their developments. An example can be seen in Pungol, the Waterway Cascadia. These blocks are built facing the greenery. The project is matched with gazebo overlooking the impressive waterway added with viewing veranda which allows for a panoramic view over Punggol Waterway.
The CEO of Forum Architects and a member of jury HDB Award, Mr. Tan Kok Hiang announced that Waterway Cascadia’s engineered structures ” improved the system of the said blocks and introduces an identity and dignity of the estate.” Aside from being awardee of HDB Design Award, the project also gained a certificate from the Greenmark Gold Plus Standard and the ABC or Active, Beautiful and Clean which was given by the Building and Construction Authority(BCA). The project has attributes of environment-friendly factors or elements like a set of rain gardens and bio-swales.
Aside from the new development projects, HDB Design Award is negotiated with older estates through a “rejuvenation” section. This 2017, the Bedok Town Centre’s Pedestrian Mall won the award. The impressive pedestrian mall was modernized under the program of HDB’s Remaking Our Heartland (ROH) which runs for 1 year and cost $3 million to bring off. Modernization or updating includes landscaping, new paving and trees and other plants that enhances an increased connectivity and easy accessibility to the occupants of all genders and ages.
Other projects that won an award are the Senja Ridges, Woodleigh Glen, Bedok Beacon, Golden Mint, Keat Hong Pride, Hougang ParkEdge, Hougang Crimson, and Hougang Meadow. A couple of other projects were given merit certificates.
In a press release, Dr Cheong Koon Hean, the chief executive of HDB stressed that providing quality and exceptional homes to Singaporeans is considered as “national endeavor”, that pulls both the merge efforts of external contractors and consultants and the HDB.
Mr. Seah Chee Huang, an award jury panelists of HDB Constructions and the Singapore’s Institute of Architects First Vice President of Singapore commented that HDB will maintain to ” excel construction innovations and superiority, setting a higher barometer in world-class standards annually.
