Giving to the Patrick County Education Foundation

Our Mission
The Patrick County Education Foundation is an economic development initiative created to raise County education attainment levels to rank among the top five rural counties in Virginia and attract new businesses and job opportunities to the area.

The Honorable
Gerald L. Baliles
Chairman

Rural areas must change their culture to the point that education becomes part of every public discussion and decision.  Education must permeate the consciousness of the citizenry at large.  It must be seen for what it is…the key to that future….

….What is required is a sweeping change in the way education is viewed, lifelong in scope for everyone, even though that requires politically difficult decisions and requires significant financial investments often beyond the capabilities of many local governments.

The Honorable Gerald L. Baliles
Chairman, Patrick County Education Foundation

Excerpts from remarks to the Virginia Heartland Economic Development Summit at Longwood College, Farmville, VA, May 1, 2002

How You Can Help
To reach our goals, the Foundation seeks the financial support of individuals, businesses and organizations alike.  We especially encourage the support of organizations interested in investing in rural economic development initiatives.  Our projected need for this ten year initiative is $7 million to $10 million.

As a donor, you can be assured that your contributions will be put to work in Patrick County supporting the development and implementation of programs and services for the County’s citizens. But they will also help to create education-based economic development programs that can be replicated in other rural communities. So your gift will help create better communities both locally and beyond.

3. Virginia Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP):  Yet another way to give to the Foundation is through the Virginia Neighborhood Assistance Program. This program, administered through the Virginia Department of Social Services, is designed to provide state tax credits as an incentive to businesses and individuals to contribute directly to approved nonprofit organizations that serve impoverished citizens. (Complete information on the NAP is available on the Virginia Department of Social Services website under the “Communities” heading.)

The Patrick County Education Foundation is an approved NAP organization.

A business contributing at least $889 in cash, goods, stock, real estate, certain professional and contracting services and facility rental or lease directly to the Foundation may receive a state tax credit of 45% of their total contribution. Tax credits are also available to individuals or married couples who make cash donations of at least $500.

NOTE: There are tax credit and/or gift minimums and maximums that apply to both businesses and individuals/married couples. Please contact us if you have any questions.
